Retired/Rehomed-Never Forgotton

Any breeder who's been around long enough will encounter this inevitability.  For Cedars Point we stayed it off as long as possible, but in 2025 we had to make some difficult decisions.  Our kennel will never be the same but the choices made changed lives for the better.  We never expected this reality from the onset, but were naive in not looking at this aspect of becoming a breeder with our eyes wide open from the beginning.  In retrospect, it would have changed nothing however.

NaCH BB's Aster

NaCH BB's Aster, any bird or furred animals disaster, personifies Cedars Point Kennel's beginning.  Aster's parents, Lakewood's Enchanted Beauty and Gosch's Cir Conn produced for us a monster, yet one with a loving temperament.  The above Christmas photo speaks to her love and ogre for birds.  Look at those eyes!  Aster was bred four times, yet produced only one litter, our D Litter.  Aster litter, with the help of amazing buyers, helped CPK achieve their fourth NAVHDA NA Breeders Award in our first four litters.  Unfortunately Aster's uterus was not embryo implant friendly and this finally resulted in her spay and re-home in April of 2025.  The positive side to all this is that her new owners live here in South Dakota and we plan to hunt with them this coming season.

Cedars Point Don't Stop Believin'-Zephyr, the youngest Small Munsterlander in the history of the breed to pass the NAVHDA NA test at 3 months of age, is an amazing huntress.  Her nose up into the wind style gave her the advantage on ruffed grouse, hungarian partridge and chukar-the runners of the upland, forest and foothills.  We didn't want to "stop believin'.  However, by age two she was barely at severe fault in height at the withers.  She was also Aster's daughter and represented to us when she was born our only prospect for the continued breeding of  Cedar's line in our kennel.  Limited by space and city ordinance we had to make a difficult decision in April of 2025 and rehome her with another one of our buyers.  She's in fact living the life with two other dogs-one of which she shares the same father.  She's already missed and come next season there will be no other who can locate, point and ease into prairie, foothill and forest birds like this one has etched into our minds over the last two years.  Fortunately her buyers send photos of her almost daily to fill the gap.
