Placement Philosophy & Standards

Our Placement Philosophy
At Cedars Point Kennel, we do not place dogs on a first-come, first-served basis.
Each placement—whether a puppy or an adult dog—is made with long-term fit, integrity of the breed, and the individual dog’s success in mind.
We breed and raise Small Münsterländers with a focus on:
-
Sound temperament
-
Trainability and cooperation
-
Versatile hunting ability
-
Structural correctness
-
Long-term health and longevity
Because of this, placement decisions are selective and intentional.

What We Prioritize in a Home
We give strongest consideration to homes that:
-
Plan to actively hunt or participate in NAVHDA testing
-
Value training, structure, and temperament, not just companionship
-
Demonstrate consistency, communication, and follow-through
-
Are aligned with our long-term breeding and preservation goals
We also highly value:
-
Prior dog ownership experience (especially versatile breeds)
-
Willingness to stay in contact and share updates, testing results, and health data

Transparency & Fit
We believe placement is a two-way relationship built on trust.
We expect:
-
Honest communication about intentions, timelines, and other commitments
-
Respect for the process, including timing, evaluation, and final placement decisions
In return, we provide:
-
Complete transparency about our dogs, program, and expectations
-
Guidance on selecting the right dog for your situation—not just any available dog

Our Commitment to the Dog
Every decision we make is based on:
“Where will this dog have the highest likelihood of long-term success?”
This means:
-
Not every qualified applicant will receive a dog
-
Some placements may be declined, even after initial interest
-
Timing, readiness, and overall fit all matter

Adult Dog Placement
Retired or started dogs are placed with the same level of scrutiny as puppies.
We do not place adult dogs:
-
On short timelines
-
Without confirmed fit
-
Into situations that do not align with their training and development

Final Notes
We understand that this process may feel different from more traditional approaches.
However, it is this level of selectivity that allows us to:
-
Maintain consistency in our program
-
Support our dogs throughout their lives
-
Contribute meaningfully to the future of the breed
