Our Story

Cedars Point Kennel has been a selective breeder of Small Munsterlanders since 2018, following the vetting of our foundation stud dog, IntCH Gosch’s Cir Conn Cedar through the Small Munsterlander Club of America (SMCA).

What began as a search for a personal hunting companion has grown into a carefully managed breeding program focused on sound temperaments, proven ability and responsible stewardship of the breed. Our dogs are bred to hunt with purpose, live well in the home, and thrive when given meaningful work.

We currently maintain a small, intentional program with Cedar, two active breeding females, and three carefully selected young prospects from recent litters. All of our dogs live with us, train with us, and hunt out in front of us.

Our Philosophy

We believe that great hunting dogs are not accidents.

At Cedars Point, breeding decisions are guided by:

  • Temperament, cooperation, and trainability

  • Health, structure, and pedigree analysis

  • Performance testing and objective evaluation

  • Real hunting experience in varied terrain and conditions

Our dogs are exposed early to birds, water, travel, and diverse environments. They are expected to be hunters first, but also stable, trustworthy companions at home.  We breed selectively and infrequently, prioritizing quality over quantity.

Puppy placement matters deeply to us—we look for homes that value engagement, training, and giving a dog a job, whether that job is hunting, agility, testing, scent work, or an active lifestyle with purpose.

Program Accomplishments

As an established kennel, trainer, and breeder, we are proud of what our dogs—and their owners—have accomplished:

  • Five of our first seven litters qualified for North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association (NAVHDA) Natural Ability (NA) Breeders Awards, across all three of our current breeding females: NatCH Riava’s Miss Dakota, IntCH Brush Dale’s You Can’t Fence Me In, and NatCH BB’s Aster-retired.  Dive deeper into our awards here.

  • IntCH Gosch’s Cir Conn Cedar has sired six NAVHDA NA Breeders Award litters, including one for a first-time breeder

  • Multiple Cedars Point dogs have earned Prize I NAVHDA NA scores, including several maximum scores.

  • Cedars Point dogs have gone on to pursue:

    • Advanced hunt testing

    • Club vetting for breeding in the Small Munsterlander Club of America and conformation evaluation

    • Professional working-dog programs with Penn Vet Working Dog Center

    • Search and rescue and avalanche rescue development at Hyak Ski Area in Washington state

These results reflect consistency—not one standout dog, but a program built on adaptable repeatable traits.

Education & Community

In 2025, we launched the Cedars Point blog to share what we’ve learned over more than a decade of breeding, training, and living with Small Munsterlanders.  Categories include:

  • Looking for a Small Munsterlander?-Understanding the breed, breeders and how to choose one.

  • The Training Table-Training and handler development

  • The Whelping Room-Whelping and breeder education

  • Recipes-Recipes for cooking wild game

  • What's New at Cedars Point-Updates and goings on at Cedars Point Kennel

Our goal is education, transparency, and connection. We believe informed buyers and engaged owners strengthen the breed as a whole.

Looking Ahead

We continue to evaluate young prospects, pursue advanced testing, and refine our program with each generation. Please feel free to call, write, or schedule a visit—or better yet, come hunt with us.
