Awards, Testing, Progeny Performance Summary
Introduction
This page provides context for the awards, testing and progeny performance results associated with dogs bred and produced at Cedars Point Kennel. The goal is to help prospective owners understand how performance is evaluated, what various scores and awards represent, and how to interpret progeny data responsibly.
Overall Performance Summary
Cedars Point Kennel has been a selective breeder of Small Munsterlanders since 2018, when Cedar was vetted as a stud. Our program is intentionally small and hands-on, allowing us to remain closely involved in each dog’s development—from whelping through training, testing, and life in the field.
Several litters bred at Cedars Point have earned NAVHDA Natural Ability (NA) Breeders Awards, reflecting consistent natural ability, temperament, and performance. Individual dogs have also achieved early NA testing milestones, and many continue on to pursue advanced NAVHDA titles and other certifications.
Beyond upland hunting, Cedars Point dogs have worked in professional training environments and service-oriented roles, including K9 programs and backcountry search and rescue. Breeding decisions are guided by long-term stewardship rather than volume, with an emphasis on producing capable partners for owners who value intentional training and lifelong learning.
That same philosophy extends to our educational efforts, including our blog, where we share insights on breeding, training, and life with versatile dogs. At its core, Cedars Point remains grounded in education, experience, achievement, and respect—for the dogs, the work, and the landscapes that shape them.

Breeder Awards & Testing Results Explained

NAVHDA Natural Ability (NA) Testing — Overview
The NAVHDA Natural Ability (NA) test is designed to evaluate the inherent abilities of young versatile hunting dogs, typically tested before 16 months of age. NA testing emphasizes instinct and natural aptitude rather than finished training.
Abilities evaluated include:
-
Nose
-
Search
-
Water
-
Pointing
-
Tracking
-
Desire
-
Water
Each category is scored on a 0–4 scale, with scores weighted to produce a maximum possible score of 112. Because NA testing occurs early in a dog’s development, results reflect both genetics and early exposure rather than advanced training.
Understanding NA Scores
NA scores provide a snapshot of a young dog’s natural strengths and developmental trajectory. Higher scores indicate strong instinct, desire, and cooperation, but participation rates and consistency across litters are often more meaningful than any single result.
Cedars Point dogs have earned a range of NA scores across many handlers, environments, and regions—data that is shared transparently to support informed evaluation.
NAVHDA NA Breeders Awards
The NAVHDA Natural Ability Breeders Award recognizes breeding pairs that produce multiple offspring meeting established NA performance criteria within a defined time frame. These awards reflect consistency across a litter, not individual standout performances.
Several Cedars Point litters have earned NA Breeders Awards, indicating repeatable natural ability, sound temperament, and suitability for versatile hunting work.
